A documented Grade 2 Spanish colonial 4 Reales cob recovered from the 1715 Fleet during the extraordinary 2025 treasure discovery widely reported as the “$1 Million Coin Hoard.”
The 2025 recovery became one of the most publicized 1715 Fleet discoveries in recent years, bringing a remarkable group of Spanish colonial silver coinage back to the surface more than three centuries after the fleet was destroyed.
This particular coin possesses an especially unusual historical feature. Fine intentional scratches follow portions of the cross design, apparently made with a sharp object during the coin's period of circulation or prior to the wreck. Rather than modern damage, these old markings form part of the coin's individual history — evidence that someone physically handled and deliberately marked the piece more than three centuries ago before it ultimately disappeared beneath the Atlantic.
