The one reale was the working money of the Spanish empire — the coin that paid a day's labour, bought bread, and travelled every route the silver fleets opened. Struck by hand from sheared bar silver, no two are alike in outline, and each shows only the part of the die that happened to land on the blank.
What survives on a good cob is a fragment: an arm of the cross, part of the castles and lions, sometimes a mint mark or an assayer's initial. Collectors read them for exactly that — the strike tells you where the coin was made and, often, roughly when.
These are sold individually. Each is chosen for a legible strike and honest, uncleaned surfaces.
